I always wanted to have a nice, good looking plugin for wordpress to display the social bookmarking buttons for digg, reddit, … I personally don’t like the small buttons displayed on numerous sites. On the other side, having large icons occupies too much space in the layout.
I created SocioFluid, displaying some small icons, which grows when the mouse is moved over, similar to the mac effect. SocioFluid plugin uses jquery with icondock plugin to render the “mac effect”:

SocioFluid adds to your wordpress posts the buttons to the major bookmarking sites. In the current version of the plugin(v0.9beta) the icons to be displayed can be selected from administration panel. By default all the items are selected:

The plugin was tested on wordpress 2.3 and wordpress 2.5.1
If you have any request for a new feature for this plugin you can propose/vote or sponsor it on sociofluid page on openversion.com:
Licence: the plugin is distributed under dual license MIT-LICENSE and GPL-LICENSE. It includes jquery and icondock which are distributed under the same license.

If you could add an Email icon that would be awesome.

08|Aug|2008 3Hmmm. When you mouse-over the icons they all just show “A” as their description. Can this be fixed in a future version?

13|Aug|2008 4Hi I have implemented this on my site, but when you move the mouseover the buttons they are highlighted with a black background. any idea how i can remove this?
thanks for a great plugin though!

15|Aug|2008 5Hi, I took a look on your website. The problem is that the plugin uses the inherit the css style defined in the page. Each icon is a link and is displayed accordingly. For example for an ordinary link in your page when the mouse is onover the background is black. In style.css the #000 is used.
a:hover, a:active {
color:#fff;
text-decoration:none;
background:#000;
}
Remember sociofluid id still beta. In the next version i’ll define a separate syle.

To Stephanie: if you want to get the plugin to show in a custom place, you have to dig around in the php a little bit…lol. Like try to chage the alignment from “center” to “left”.

25|Sep|2008 18Thanks for the plugin. Very attractive and boosts the feel and professionalism of the site. Is there a similar plugin that allows others to connect with you in social sites such as Myspace and Facebook?

02|Oct|2008 20I am having the same problem with the animation. Other than Akismet this is the only plugin I have installed on a brand new site and I get no animation at all. I have tried every combination of sizes for the buttons with no luck.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

28|Oct|2008 31Aloha!
First of all, thanks for the wonderful plugin.
However, my site ran into a slight problem. I can’t turn on the “BlogMarks” bookmark site, or else all the icons will disappear from my blog. Perhaps there is some problem with my blog. Please look into it. Thanks!
Once again, great plugin. Cheers!

28|Oct|2008 32I find it when the small size is chosen, that you can’t really click on the buttons as the ALT text comes over it.

28|Oct|2008 33Guys just upgraded to v1.1 and now the icons are invisible – they seem to be taking up space but nothing reacts or is visible …
I’ll leave it activated so you can check it out.
Otherwise a GREAT plugin!

29|Oct|2008 34Hi there,
plugin STOPPED WORKING after upgrade to 1.1?
Same problem as previous post – icons are invisible (though they show quickly when loading).
BUGGY – DON’T UPGRADE!
Otherwise great plugin!

29|Oct|2008 35Hi Guys,
Seems that the last version has a few bugs. I’ll try to fix them in the next days so another version, clean and shiny will be ready.
Pain – try to take again a new version of the plugin, some images were missing, the problem is solved now.
Miroslav Glavic – you selected the same size for small/large buttons. you don’t have the mac effect due to this. If you want to can try to set a smaller size for the ‘small’ buttons. However this there is a problem with the plugin that will be fixed in couple of days.
PzheL – I “bookmarked” your problem and I’ll try to see what happens. It’s strange because for me it works.
Robert: I’m not able guess what happens because you went back to v1.0

11|Nov|2008 37Hey
Thanks for developing such a good-looking plugin.
For me it sadly stopped being “fluid” – the icons are not animated anymore.
The problem is that i can’t tell when exactly that happened or what i did when it happened.
I however have tried resetting sizes and even reinstalled the plugin completely and it still doesn’t seem to work for one reason or another
Any help is greatly appreciated.

02|Dec|2008 39Your plugin looks good but it breaks another plugin called ‘Dynamic Content Gallery’ which I use extensively in my site. So for now it’s a No-No for me.
Please take a look into the matter.

13|Dec|2008 40Is SocioFluid working properly with WP 2.7? I activated the plugin but am not seeing it work & not sure what I’m missing? Please help!

13|Dec|2008 41I didn’t test yet Sociofluid on WordPress 2.7. I’ll do it soon.

16|Dec|2008 42Unfortunately, this plugin hasn’t worked for me for the last few WP releases. However, if you grab the widget code from sociofluid.com, it does work. There are a couple of negatives to that method, though. One is that it takes an extremely long time to load the buttons and also if you would like the buttons to appear on the front page, only the first post works properly
Those were my experiences.
Would love to see this working for WP 2.7 as it is my favorite social site plugin. Thanks!
Andreas
17|Dec|2008 43@Jaxson: How does the grabbing of the widget-code from socialfluid work?
Jaxson
17|Dec|2008 44Just go to sociofluid.com and fill out the options. You can decide how large you want the icons and the effect. Then click “generate widget” and you’re given a code at the top of the page. ‘Copy to Clipboard’ and paste it into your WP theme where you want SocioFluid to appear. It loads slow on my blogs, but maybe it won’t for your site. Good luck!

21|Aug|2010 69I agree with Ab (50). I love the widget and think it’s a great way to showcase a lot of icons. Any way you can provide a customizable version or file for use in a php/html page? I’d like the ability to change the icons, add custom site, etc.
Great work, any help is appreciated.
