I don’t know if you noticed it, I noticed blogs were the first web pages consistently having a 2 columns design: the column containing posts and the sidebar in the right side. It’s an interesting phenomenon. Until I started to read blogs most of the websites had 2-3 columns layouts, with the main sidebar on the right side. The first blogs were a little bit exotic to me because my experience was limited to webpages where the main content was placed in the right side. I think at this point most of the layouts places the main content in the left side. If I see those days a website having the sidebar on left I feel it unusual.I’m not sure what made this layout so popular for the blogs. One of the most important factors was of course the SEO: the search engines get the content first and the the menu. Another reason might be that the first blogs were looking to be different than the classic media.
