Many SEO Experts Give Wrong Advice Regarding Wordpress Permalinks. The post describe in details the speed problems which comes in wordpress when the Permalinks are activated.

The main issue is generate by the wordpress architecture. All the maps between the permalink url and the real items are kept in the database. When a webpage is displayed wordpress has to retrieve a number of items from the database equal to the number of internal links displayed in that page.

The solution proposed by the author is to use a permalink structure that does not start with a text based variable. In the same time he blames seo experts for teaching wrong tips and tricks.

Seo experts are seo experts. Usually they will teach you how to do push your pages up in the search engines. Optimizing your blog should be only the second priority. So you have to remember to use all the time some caching mechanism for wordpress, especially when you use permalinks. You can try WP-CACHE or WP Super Cache.

Usually the bad neighbors are the warez sites, hacking sites, pornography sites, link farms. A bad reputation can have also sites like script generated sites, sites with duplicate content, sites generating incoming links using bots.

You have to be carefully who you are linking to because it happens for sites to change their profile. In most of the cases old expired sites get brought by people who drive them using black hat techniques in spammy sites which finally gets banned or penalized.

Links to banned or penalized sites might induce a penalty for your own site and this is named bad neighborhood.

The previous version was 0.9beta. From new features has been added:

  • The SocioFluid menu can now be displayed in the pages listing posts(homepage, categories, …). On one computer where I’ve tried the plugin in action it seems that the pages containing multiple posts freezes for about one second when it’s loaded. I hope for you it’s not the same.
  • New Buttons added for other bookmarking sites.
  • The menu can be displayed the top or at the bottom of the post.
  • A combination of icons of different sizes can be selected: 16, 24, 32 or 48 pixels(small and large icons).
  • The way how the icons will grow when the mouse is moved over the icons can be selected: Up, Down or Up&Down.
  • A text is displayed under each icon when the mouse is on over.
  • It uses jquery with jqdock plugin.

I always wanted to have a nice, good looking plugin for wordpress to display the social bookmarking buttons for digg, reddit, … I personally don’t like the small buttons displayed on numerous sites. On the other side, having large icons occupies too much space in the layout.

I created SocioFluid, displaying some small icons, which grows when the mouse is moved over, similar to the mac effect. SocioFluid plugin uses jquery with icondock plugin to render the “mac effect”:

SocioFluid adds to your wordpress posts the buttons to the major bookmarking sites. In the current version of the plugin(v0.9beta) the icons to be displayed can be selected from administration panel. By default all the items are selected:

The plugin was tested on wordpress 2.3 and wordpress 2.5.1

This All you have to do is to download it as a textfile from this link, rename it as php, upload it in wp-content/plugins of your wordpress installation and activate it from WordPress administration page.

When the plugin is enabled you can white the code like this:

If you want to insert multi line codes you have to put it in <pre> tags:

When I edit the articles containing code I always take care to deactivate the default wysiwyg wordpress plugin, because it changes the article when it loads it in an undesired manner. I deactivated it from Users > Your Profile, unchecking this:
