Everyone can download it for free from this link. Alexa used to sell the list until now for $6500.

There are many ways to can use the data to analyze popularity and the trafic for websites. Alexa rank can be manipulated and is based on the alexa toolbar which is used only by a small percentage of internet users. However the list is usefull but is not totally reliable.

The benefits can not be ignored:

  • The improvement even for a limited amount of time will add new visitors to your site, boosting the income for a few days.
  • Some visitors might bookmark the site in some other social bookmarking sites or they can add incoming links to your page.
  • The search engines will detect new content and will index it faster.

There are many people adding their new content in social bookmarking for those reasons. This might be a good technique, because most of the users are willing to give you their vote, but are to lazy to add a page on their favorite social bookmarking site.

There are websites which can be used to mass-add pages to Social Bookmarking Sites. You can use one of those:

  • socialposter.com – can be used to easily submit pages to up to 160 social and bookmark sites
  • socialmarker.com – similar to socialposter it is updated with a list containing most of the search engines.

Personally, I’m not using those websites, but I intend to do it, only for the posts that look extremely interesting and viral.

A few updates after I published this post, from Chris Lang through the first comment(scroll down and read it). I’m not sure about that information, but I’ll think again before using social bookmarking submitter software :) .

Initially was Yahoo. Then Google was born. Many were using Yahoo mail when Google released gmail. I noticed that slowly www.gmail.com(which was initially the place where to see your gmail if you remember) was moved under mail.google.com similar to what yahoo had. Now yahoo releases ymail.com which you can access from mail.yahoo.com. Everything makes sense now. You can go and grab your email @ymail.com with the same nickname as the one @gmail.com. You can access your ymail inbox at mail.yahoo.com and your gmail inbox at mail.google.com.
